Do I need to insure a vehicle in storage?

Submitted by liam.cepelotti… on

Yes, we recommend that you keep your vehicle insured while it’s in storage, because as the owner, you’re responsible for any damage caused by your vehicle. For example, your vehicle catches fire as a result of an electrical failure and causes damage to other property or buildings. In this case, if you’re still insured, your insurer will compensate the owners of the other property, leaving you to pay only the deductible, if any.

Do I need to inform my insurer if I store my vehicle?

Submitted by liam.cepelotti… on

Yes, because once your vehicle is in storage, it may benefit from different coverage. Storing your vehicle also entitles you to a storage credit for the duration of the storage period. Please see a damage insurance representative for more information. Please note that some vehicles are not eligible for a storage credit. This is the case for motorcycles and snowmobiles, which are not eligible for a storage credit.
