GThanks to a generous partnership between our mutual and the Drummondville Cégep Foundation, yesterday we inaugurated the Promutuel Insurance IT Laboratory. A plaque to mark the occasion was proudly unveiled as part of the ribbon cutting event!
In January 2020, Drummondville Cégep announced it was adding a program on financial and insurance services practices. Promutuel Insurance Centre-Sud pledged a donation of $25,000 over five years and became the main program partner. The state-of-the-art Promutuel Insurance IT Laboratory will train tomorrow’s workforce to meet the needs of local businesses and will help keep the insurance industry moving forward for years to come. Now students have access to a classroom with all the bells and whistles and a practice room with mirrored glass. The spaces recreate a real-life work environment as closely as possible.
In addition to the upgraded facilities, the partnership also gives students better employment prospects thanks to a direct recruitment program for jobs and internships. What’s more, new scholarships have been set up to support students in the financial and insurance services program.

Our team was in Sherbrooke on September 10 for the Sherbrooke Chamber of Commerce pig roast and gala! The event was an opportunity to celebrate once again the talent and achievements of the 22 winners from the Estrie Recognition Gala held April 23. Well done, everyone!
And because we’re THERE to give back to the community, we were excited to give all the guests a Promutuel Insurance BBQ mat! Summer might be drawing to a close, but there’s still time to enjoy some great tasting food from the grill!
Happy fall to the entire Sherbrooke business community!
On August 28 we attended the Tablée du Village event at Sainte-Brigitte-des-Saults! As a major partner, we came together with people from across the community to tuck into a delicious meal using ingredients produced by local farmers.
Promutuel Insurance Centre-Sud is proud to support the Sainte-Croix/Heriot Foundation and give back to community. On August 18 we took part in the event-in-a-box online festivities as a platinum partner. When we all pull together, we can keep up the momentum for progress in healthcare and medical services in Drummondville. Kudos to the organizers and all the volunteers and partners near and far who worked so hard to make the event a success!
The theme for the evening was “reaching new heights,” and that’s exactly what happened with net proceeds of $775,000, surpassing the total raised at last year’s inaugural event. The funds will used to renovate and relocate the short-stay geriatric unit at Sainte-Croix Hospital to better meet the needs of patients and provide care in a setting that is more like home. The changes are part of a project to upgrade healthcare facilities, and the Foundation has pledged to contribute $5 million by 2025.

Promutuel Insurance Centre-Sud held a virtual annual meeting for its insured members, announcing excellent results for 2020. For the fiscal year ending December 31, 2020, the mutual posted insurance earnings of $7,361,000, mainly due to a drop in claims and actions taken in recent years to improve profitability. In addition, given the mutual association’s outstanding results in 2020 and the undeniable impact the pandemic has had on the community, Promutuel Insurance has announced it will be distributing $3.1 million in dividends to its insured members.
When sales totals are set against the compensation paid out in 2020 to insured members for losses, Promutuel Insurance Centre-Sud came out with an insurance profit. “We know our results were affected by the pandemic, but they also reflect our resourcefulness and all the hard work we put in, and we’re very proud of that,” said Promutuel Insurance Centre-Sud general manager Guylaine Romanesky during the virtual annual meeting for members.
See the press release for more details.

Each year in Canada, Consumer Choice Award collects opinions, impressions, and expectations from thousands of consumers and businesses. All winners go through a rigorous selection process conducted by an independent research firm that picks only the most outstanding service providers in their respective industries. Throughout its history, Promutuel Insurance has always viewed change as an opportunity for growth, finding ways to adapt without ever losing sight of its core mission as a mutual insurance association. In 2018, we used that strength to keep moving forward and standing out from the competition in an industry that’s rapidly evolving.
To see the results, we invite you to take a look at our annual report.
Solidarity, mutual aid and cooperation are three core values that are woven into the very fabric of your Mutual. Your Mutual is dedicated to investing day after day in the community, and is proud to have contributed once again this year to the socio-economic health of the region through the donations and sponsorships it has provided to various organizations. Your Mutual is a partner of choice in the success of many local events and initiatives.
The purpose of insurance is to protect our most precious possessions and provide peace of mind. The numerous claims filed in 2017 were a stark reminder of our first and fundamental role as an insurer: being there for our insured members when they need us.
We encourage you to read our annual report for a look at last year’s highlights and financial results.
In 2016 we continued our efforts to provide an unparalleled client experience, in particular by increasing our digital presence and agility. Leveraging our clear vision and proven ability to adapt, we were able to succeed in a highly competitive landscape.
We invite you to consult our annual report, which summarizes our highlights and financial results from the past year.
Officially created on September 1, 2016, Promutuel Insurance Centre-Sud is a result of the merger of Promutuel Insurance Coaticook-Sherbrooke, Promutuel Insurance Drummond, Promutuel Insurance Monts et Rives. This merger allows the organization to position itself favourably for continued growth in an increasingly competitive market.
The mutual’s head office will be in Sherbrooke. To serve all its insured members throughout the merged territories, it also has offices in Drummondville, Lac-Mégantic, East Angus, and La Guadeloupe.
Here’s a brief overview of the history of the three mutuals that now form Promutuel Insurance Centre-Sud:
In the summer of 1940, a group of farmers founded the Fire, Lighting and Wind Insurance Mutual Company of Saint-Edmond. At that time, the Mutual served the whole district of Stanstead and had 105 members. In January 1979, the company was officially recognised under the corporate name Fire Insurance Mutual Association of Stanstead County. On March 1, 1990, the mutual associations of Stanstead-Orford and Compton-Sherbrooke merged together to create a stronger company.
The mutualist movement in the Drummondville region dates back to 1894 with the founding of the Fire Insurance Mutual Company of Saint-Pierre de Durham. On February 11, 1979, the company merged with the parish mutuals of Saint-Jean de Wickham and Saint-Félix-de-Kingsey to create the Drummond County Fire Insurance Mutual Association, better known more recently as Promutuel Drummond.
Monts et Rives
In the Lac-Mégantic region, the origins of the mutual principle date back to 1926 with the creation of the Fire Insurance Mutual Company of the municipality of the Spaulding and Ditchfield united townships, which later became the Fire and Lightning Mutual Insurance Company of the Frontenac local municipality. In order to offer more comprehensive insurance services, the Frontenac Mutual Association merged its activities with the Saint-Samuel Mutual Association to create the Fire Insurance Mutual Company of the County of Frontenac. In 2004, the mutual association expanded its territory to the East Angus and Fleurimont regions and changed its name to Promutuel Monts et Rives.
We have introduced a survey for insured-members who have filed a claim with Promutuel Insurance to give us feedback on the service they received. This survey will also enable us to improve the service we deliver to our insured-members.
The survey can be found online at http://www.promutuel.ca/sondage and access is restricted to insured-members who have received a PIN. Not all insured-members who file a claim will systematically receive a PIN to access the survey.
If you have filed a claim with Promutuel Insurance and have not received a PIN by mail or by email, but wish to share your comments with us, please do so by following our complaint process: https://www.promutuelassurance.ca/en/complaint-process.
