Coming up on a year in our new head office!

Promutuel Insurance Monts et Rives employees finally got to move in to their new head office on rue Laval, Lac-Mégantic, in April 2015, after more than 21 months in temporary lodgings.

The new facility features a contemporary design and noble materials. The Mutual is actively involved in the local economy, so naturally much of the work went to local contractors and businesses.

Now, close to a year later, the company has a new lease on life, and the team is rarin’ to go! Staff members really appreciate the healthy new work environment conducive to their wellbeing.

Promutuel Insurance Monts et Rives is now more visible in the community than ever. “We sense that people are behind us as we get back on our feet,” said Mutual general manager Pierre Bélair. “It’s a great feeling.”

Breaking ground for the new headquarters!

We’re very pleased to announce the start of construction on our new headquarters in Drummondville. The official groundbreaking ceremony was held on September 24.

The new two-storey building will have 10,200 square feet of floor space and provide a modern work environment with more space and better customer access. The project represents a hefty $3.7 million investment in the local economy.

“This really shows how far we’ve come,” said the general manager. “An investment like this comes about because of our association’s solid financial footing and demonstrates how we can change, responding to our customers’ needs and continuing our growth.”

After the tragedy

Five days after the tragedy, with the support of our employees, we moved the operations of our mutual association away from our previous location in the red zone.

Through the support of several other mutual associations and the Fédération’s compensation service, we saw the true nature of mutuality. Claims were dealt with promptly, and we sent advances to members to allay their concerns. “We made every possible effort, and people could see our unique regional character and our closeness to our customers,” said general manager Pierre Bélair.

The fact that revenues for our mutual association have continued to grow shows that people in the area are finding their feet.

“The solidarity of Quebecers has touched the community of Lac-Mégantic. I have no doubt that with all of the support, co-operation and financial assistance, our downtown will be rebuilt stronger than ever. That’s as good a reason as any for people everywhere to feel like they’re at home with us,” said Mr. Bélair.

Territoire Promutuel Assurance Centre-Sud

About us

Officially created on September 1, 2016, Promutuel Insurance Centre-Sud is a result of the merger of Promutuel Insurance Coaticook-Sherbrooke, Promutuel Insurance Drummond, Promutuel Insurance Monts et Rives. This merger allows the organization to position itself favourably for continued growth in an increasingly competitive market.

The mutual’s head office will be in Sherbrooke. To serve all its insured members throughout the merged territories, it also has offices in Drummondville, Lac-Mégantic, East Angus, Fleurimont, and La Guadeloupe.

Here’s a brief overview of the history of the three mutuals that now form Promutuel Insurance Centre-Sud:

Coaticook-Sherbrooke
In the summer of 1940, a group of farmers founded the Fire, Lighting and Wind Insurance Mutual Company of Saint-Edmond. At that time, the Mutual served the whole district of Stanstead and had 105 members. In January 1979, the company was officially recognised under the corporate name Fire Insurance Mutual Association of Stanstead County. On March 1, 1990, the mutual associations of Stanstead-Orford and Compton-Sherbrooke merged together to create a stronger company.

Drummond
The mutualist movement in the Drummondville region dates back to 1894 with the founding of the Fire Insurance Mutual Company of Saint-Pierre de Durham. On February 11, 1979, the company merged with the parish mutuals of Saint-Jean de Wickham and Saint-Félix-de-Kingsey to create the Drummond County Fire Insurance Mutual Association, better known more recently as Promutuel Drummond.

Monts et Rives
In the Lac-Mégantic region, the origins of the mutual principle date back to 1926 with the creation of the Fire Insurance Mutual Company of the municipality of the Spaulding and Ditchfield united townships, which later became the Fire and Lightning Mutual Insurance Company of the Frontenac local municipality. In order to offer more comprehensive insurance services, the Frontenac Mutual Association merged its activities with the Saint-Samuel Mutual Association to create the Fire Insurance Mutual Company of the County of Frontenac. In 2004, the mutual association expanded its territory to the East Angus and Fleurimont regions and changed its name to Promutuel Monts et Rives.

HIGHLIGHTS IN 2015

Promutuel Insurance Centre-Sud in numbers:

  • 101 employees serving 41,700 insured members
