Promutuel Insurance’s commitment to the protection of personal information

On December 12, 2020, Promutuel Insurance was the victim of a security incident perpetrated by an unauthorized outside third party. The insurer acted promptly by bringing in a team of experts to conduct a through investigation and get to the bottom of the situation.

Throughout this episode, Promutuel Insurance acted on the recommendation of its team of experts and immediately took all necessary measures to block unauthorized access and avoid further incidents. 

Promutuel Insurance treated this extraordinary situation with all the seriousness and attention it deserved at all times and spared no effort to securely get back to business as usual. Promutuel Insurance also worked closely with law enforcement and privacy authorities.

In January 2021, as soon as the preliminary results of the investigation indicated that personal information might have been compromised, Promutuel Insurance promptly notified its employees, former employees, and retirees and offered them credit protection. 

At the same time, Promutuel Insurance hired an external firm to conduct a detailed analysis of potentially compromised files. This last step was a long and painstaking task that required a great deal of care and attention. The analysis revealed that some information from a very small number of insured members could be part of the compromised data, even though Promutuel Insurance has no evidence to date of any illegal use of that data. 

Once it obtained these results, Promutuel Insurance acted promptly to notify the affected individuals and offer them appropriate protection. Instructions on what steps to take were sent to them in a personalized letter in November 2021 indicating the type of information involved. The completion of the investigation and detailed analysis, coupled with the notification process, brings this episode to a close.
