April in Mexico: Fun in the Sun!
Kitesurfing competitions begin in spring, and I had a wonderful time in Mexico taking part in the Mexico Gold Cup, an international kitefoil racing tour event. And guess what? I finished third! I’m thrilled with the ranking, especially since the race was close, and the competition fierce!
The international kitefoil racing tour has only been around since 2014, but the level of competition is increasing very fast.
Imagine a dream tour with four spectacular destinations:
- USA (San Francisco)
I also plan to compete in the Italy event (being held now) and in San Francisco.
The Mexico competition was held in the town of La Ventana, which means “window” in Spanish. And believe me, the name is quite fitting, since there is a wind window (area where the kite can be flown) on the Gulf of California. Every day, from November to April, the wind starts blowing at 11 a.m. and doesn’t let up until 6 p.m. It’s strong and as regular as clockwork!
Mexico Gold Cup: A human adventure!
All the athletes put their heart into the competition, since they’re dedicated to developing the sport. There was so much sharing, support, and discussion, especially about how to improve as an athlete. I felt so lucky to be part of this passionate group of trailblazers and trendsetters.
My little Mexican “family”
Throughout the competition, Gabor, Tundi, and Olivia (my “sister”) were a very supportive host family.
