Diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace: Our achievements and commitment
Diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) is an approach aimed at creating more equitable, representative and welcoming environments for everyone. By integrating these principles into our daily practices, we can strengthen the sense of belonging, foster innovation and promote a culture of openness within our organization.
At Promutuel Insurance, we have chosen to make DEI a concrete driver of transformation, in line with our mutualist values. Discover how this approach enriches our community and our work environment.
DEI at Promutuel Insurance
To reflect our commitment to making DEI a lasting priority, fully integrated into our corporate social responsibility strategy, our Board of Directors has adopted a policy on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the workplace, the starting point of an ongoing effort to create an inclusive experience for our employees and our insured members.
This policy was then translated into a structured DEI Strategy outlining the guiding principles and the 11 priorities that will shape our organization’s future actions. From talent selection and acquisition processes to communications with our insured members, the DEI principles we have implemented will guide us in building a more inclusive, equitable and representative environment.
Actions that extend beyond our organization
In addition to broadening our perspectives, our approach to diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace enables us to promote our values of openness, solidarity, commitment and ambition beyond Québec. As part of our partnership with Québec International, we participated in the Talent Recruiters program, a co-development group focused on international mobility. The initiative aimed to strengthen our international recruitment capabilities across Groupe Promutuel. Our colleagues explored the latest trends in job offerings and discovered best practices in the field.
Through this partnership, we also welcomed at the Federation’s offices a group of people who had recently arrived in the Province of Québec, along with an international student cohort. This visit led to engaging discussions with candidates outside Québec, to whom we presented various career opportunities aligned with their ambitions.
Recognition that confirms our commitment
In the same vein, our Promutuel Insurance Lanaudière mutual company has implemented an innovative initiative aimed at recruiting workers from abroad. This initiative helped address part of the workforce needs and ensure the team’s continued performance. The effort was praised by the press and local institutions, which recognized our mutual company’s actions in the area of diversity and inclusion, as well as its support for the region’s economic development. Internally, our organization recognized the mutual company’s achievements by inducting it into the Promutuel Insurance Pantheon.
Similarly, the openness and ongoing pursuit of equity demonstrated by our Federation have enabled it to stand out in terms of women’s leadership and earned us the 2024 Bronze Parity Certification awarded by the organization Women in Governance. This recognition reflects our concrete commitment to gender equality and diversity in the workplace. We firmly believe that such diversity is a strength, which is why we continue, day after day, to work toward an inclusive and equitable professional environment where every colleague can thrive.
These recognitions confirm that, despite the road still ahead, we are on the right track.
A collective effort for lasting impact
At Promutuel Insurance, DEI is a collective responsibility. To empower our entire team to be agents of change, our organization has developed and offered DEI training to all our colleagues. The training aimed to highlight key DEI concepts, including discrimination, Indigenous realities and equitable treatment of clients, to raise awareness about the benefits of a more inclusive work environment for those who experience it every day. The initiative was a success, with a participation rate approaching 80%.
The coming years will bring several significant advances. Key initiatives to watch include the integration of inclusive writing in our communications, the implementation and monitoring of DEI data, the development of a first accessibility plan, the establishment of a reconciliation strategy, as well as inclusive procurement and responsible investment. Our commitment takes many forms, and each of these initiatives further strengthens our role as an inclusive employer where everyone can find their place.
An inclusive future to build together
Have you seen the Federation’s new inclusive offices featured on our social media pages? In Québec City and Longueuil, our teams are expected to work in functional and accessible spaces designed to meet the specific needs of our employees: lower lockers and adapted washrooms for people with reduced mobility, gender-neutral washrooms, a nursing room and a relaxation room. In addition, Promutuel Insurance now provides free feminine hygiene products.
Our team is proud to translate our commitment into concrete action by making diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace a driver of organizational performance, but above all a source of fulfillment for our employees.
